I have a Crate BX80 Bass Amp. It cuts out after playing it fr about 10 minutes? Is this a major repair or can a laymen be told what to do to fix it? Thanks

5 Check the Line In jack. This is a switching jack. When you plug into this jack small leaf spring contact on top of the jack are pressed open interrupting the normal signal flow and allowing the Line In signal to drive the power amp section. These contacts can become dirty and oxidized. Clean with contact cleaner or 1000 grit (or higher) sand paper. Alternatively replace the jack. I used a Neutrik after a bit of modification to the contacts. To verify that this is the problem: Play until the problem appears, then run a plug in and out of the jack several times. This wont clean the contacts but it will re-seat them. I the amp plays a bit longer after doing so, the jack is the problem. I hope this helps. Good luck,

4 Mine does the same thing. I brought it to a repair shop but it never acted up for them. Now it hardly plays at all. No idea what the problem is. I am thinking about getting a new head unit that powers 2 cabinets and getting a 2x10 cabinet and then powering that and my BX-80 with it. I should probably bring it in again and see if they can fix it. I will try playing it again this week, haven't touched it in months since it isn't reliable enough for any gigs.

0 Im not sure if this is the problem I'm having because I didn't give it enough time to cool down and then start to play again, but i will do so today. but any more info is greatly helpful. thanks

0 The BX-80 has a weak link in the sense that the headphone jack (when in use) cuts the speaker out private practicing. Excessive use of headphone jack results in weak connection for regular speaker use.
