My JW-50 has all but died and I was wondering if there was software available to convert the Roland midi files to a format useable on a pc?

0 I have had the same problem with converting files from a Roland JW-50 Music Workstation to MIDI, so I wrote a program to do the convertion. The program is still very much beta; I have only tested it on JW-50 files, and only on Ubuntu - it should be fairly simple to port the program to Windows, though. If you're interested, send a mail to asgerix at hotmail dot com. Regards, Asger Grunnet

0 If your jw50 is still working and you want to convert existing files to .mid format useable on a pc try the following. 1) Load existing jw format song onto machine. 2) Go to midi menu and select save as midi(2) title song and save onto disk. Note make sure you use only 2DD disks as when formatted on jw50 a pc won't read a HD double density disk unless you cover over the right hand corner hole. 3) Use a standard pc software package like Cubase and import the mid file into the programme. Note the jw50 saves to disk as format0 which puts all data onto one track. See next step. 4) You will then have to use the midi function in the programme to dissolve the midi tracks to give the individual midi channels. 5) The final step should be to check sound source compatability and naming of tracks. Hope this may be of help as i to am just tring to get a mountain of material onto pc for furture use and need to do it prior to my jw50 machine packing in! Good luck and keep the faith. CJ
