Chapter 1 Cisco AS5850 Product Overview
Field-Replaceable Units
• Boots and reloads software images
• Provides source clocks used by all feature cards and power supplies
• Provides a BITS input BNC connector
• Connects to an external alarm source through a connector located on the front panel
Install the RSC card in the Cisco AS5850 in either slot 6 or slot 7. The card plugs directly into the
backplane.
The RSC card consists of the following components:
• CPU
–
RSC (QED RM7000 - 250MHz)
–
ERSC (Broadcom BCM1250 - 650MHZ).
• 1Gigabyte of DDR memory on ERSC
• I/O controller
• Compact Flash memory card
• Boot Flash memory
• EEPROM
• NVRAM
• Packet switch ASICs
• Fast Ethernet, console, auxiliary and two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces

Figure 1-6 shows the RSC components.

Note The universal gateway supports two RSCs for a redundant connection to the network backbone or for
