Again,dependingontheoutputconnectionsfromthedrivetomotor,thegroundedneutralmaybeapathfor
commonmodecurrentcausedbythedriveoutput.
Ungrounded secondary
Groundingofthetransformersecondaryisessentialtothesafetyofpersonnelaswellasthesafeoperation
ofthedrive.Leavingthesecondaryoatingcanpermitdangerouslyhighvoltagesbetweenthechassisofthe
driveandtheinternalpowerstructurecomponents.Inmanycasesthisvoltagecouldexceedtheratingofthe
EMClterandinputMOVprotectiondevicesofthedrivecausingacatastrophicfailure.Inallcases,theinput
powertothedriveshouldbereferencedtoground.Ifthetransformercannotbegrounded,thenanisolation
transformermustbeinstalledwiththesecondaryofthetransformergrounded.
Warning
Ifapowersystemwithanungroundedsecondaryisused,thelinetogroundEMClter
componentsandlinetogroundMOVprotectionmustbedisconnectedordamageto
thecontrollercanresult.
