9. Ventilation.Slotsandopeningsinthecabinet are providedforventilationand toensure
reliableoperationof the appliances and to protectthemfromoverheating, and these

peningsmustnotbeblockedorcovered.Theopeningsshouldnever beblockedby
placingtheproducts onabed,sofa, rug,or othersimilar surface.Thisproductshould
never beplacednearoroveraradiator orheat register.This productshould not be

laced inabuilt-ininstallationsuchasabookcase or rack unlessproper ventilation
isprovidedorthemanufacturer’s instructionshavebeenadhered to.
10. PowerSources.Thisproductshouldbeoperatedonlyfromthetypeofpowersource

ndicatedonthemarkinglabels.Ifyouarenotsureofthetypeofpowersupplyto
yourhome, consultyourappliancedealer or localpowercompany.
11. GroundingorPolarization.Thisproductisequippedwith polarizedalternating-current
lineplugs (plugshaving one bladewiderthantheother).Thisplugwillfitinto the power
outlet onlyoneway.Thisisa safetyfeature.If you are unabletoinserttheplug fully
intotheoutlet,tryreversingtheplug.Iftheplugshouldstillfailtofit,contactyour
electriciantoreplaceyourobsolete outlet.Donotdefeat the safetypurpose
ofthepolarizedplug.
12. PowerCordProtection. Power-supplycordshouldberoutedsothatitisnotlikely
tobewalkedonorpinchedbyitemsplacedupon oragainstit,paying particular
attentiontocordsatplugs, convenience receptacles,andthepointwhere they
exitfrom the appliances.
13. Lightning.Foraddedprotectionforthisaudio/video productduring alightningstorm,
orwhenitisleftun-attendedandunusedforlongperiods oftime,unplugitfromthe
walloutletanddisconnecttheantennaorcable system.Thiswillpreventdamage
totheproductdueto lightningandpower-linesurges.
14. PowerLines.An outsideantennasystemshould not belocatedinthevicinity of
over-head powerlinesorotherelectriclightorpower circuits,orwhere itcan fall into
suchpower linesorcircuits.Wheninstallinganoutsideantennasystem,extremecare
should be takentokeepfromtouchingsuchpowerlines orcircuitsascontact with
themmight be fatal.
15. Overloading.Donotoverloadwalloutlets and extensioncordsas thiscanresult
inariskoffireorelectricshock.
16. ObjectandLiquidEntry.Neverpushobjectsofanykindintothisproductthrough
openings,astheymaytouchdangerousvoltagepointsorshortout partsthat
could resultina fireor electricshock.Neverspillliquidofanykindonthis
audio/videoproduct.
17. Servicing.Donotattempttoservicethisproduct yourself,asopeningorremoving
covers may exposeyoutodangerousvoltageorother hazards.Refer all servicing
toqualifiedservice personnel.
18. DamageRequiringService.Unplugthis productfromwalloutletsandreferservicing
toqualifiedservice personnelunder the followingconditions:
a.Whenthepower supplycordorplugisdamaged.
b.Ifliquidhasbeen spilled,orobjectshavefalleninto the product.
c.Iftheproduct has beenexposedtorainorwater.
d.Iftheproduct doesnotoperatenormallybyfollowingtheoperating instructions.
Adjust onlythosecontrolsthatarecovered bytheoperatinginstructions,as
animproperadjustmentof othercontrols mayresultindamageandwill often
requireextensive workby aqualifiedtechniciantorestoretheproduct
toitsnormal operation.

9. ReplacementParts.When replacement partsarerequired,be suretheservice
technicianhasusedreplacementpartsspecified bythe manufactureror thatthe

artshave the samecharacteristicsastheoriginalpart.Unauthorized substitutions
mayresult in fire,electric shockorotherhazards.
20. SafetyCheck.Uponcompletionofanyserviceorrepairstothisproduct,askthe

ervice technician toperformsafetycheckstodetermine thattheproducts
areinproper operatingcondition.

SAFELIMITSOF OPERATION
PolkAudio specifiesthe recommended amplificationrangeforeachofitspassive(non-amplified)

oudspeakers.Typicallythatspecificationwillbeexpressedas arange of powersuchas20-200Watts
(
perchannel).Itisimportantto understand whatthosenumbers meanwhenchoosing areceiveror
amplifierforyourPolkloudspeakers.Thelowernumber indicatesthelowestcontinuousratedpower
t
hatwillyieldacceptable performancein atypicallisteningenvironment.Thehigher numberindicates
thehighestperchannelpowerthatshouldbeusedwith yourPolkspeakers.Thatnumbershouldnot
b
econfused witha “PowerHandling”specificationanditdoesnotimply thatthespeakerwill safely
handle thatfullamountofpower onalong-termbasis. We specifyawiderangeofpower ratingsbecause
notallelectronicsmanufacturersusethesamemethodforratingpower.Infact, highqualitylower-rated
a
mplifierssoundbetterandplaylouderthan low qualityunitswith higherpowerrating.
A
utomobilehorsepowerisgoodanalogy. Yourcar probablyhasfarmorehorsepowerthan itneeds
foryourdailycommuteandislikely capableofgoingwell over120mph(190km/hr).Having that

xtrapower is goodforon-rampacceleration and dangeravoidance(likegettingawayfrombrain-eating
zombies)butthatdoesn’tmeanthatitisadvisabletooperateyour car on NorthAmerican highwaysat
f
ullpower and maximumspeedforanextendedperiodoftime. Justaskyourlocalstate trooperifyou
areindoubt. Similarly,werecommendusingamplifiersandreceiverswithrated powerabovethePower

andlinglimitsofourspeakersbecausehavingextrapoweravailableforshort termpeaksisconducive
tobetter soundquality,maximumdynamicrangeandeffortlesshighvolumeoutput.But
w
estrongly urgeyounottousethefullpowerofyouramplifierorreceiverfordailylistening.
Loudspeakerscanbedamagedwhenanamplifier,regardlessofitswattage, ismade to playat higher
listeninglevelsthan its powercanclearly produce.Operationatthislevelcanresultinveryhighlevels of
audibledistortionoriginatingintheamplifier,whichcanaddaharsh,grittysoundtoyourlisteningmateri-
al.Ifyouheardistortion—turnthevolumedown orrisk damagingyourspeakers.Youcandam-
agejustaboutanyspeaker,regardlessofpower rating,ifyoudriveanamplifiertoorbeyondthepointof
distortion.
