TROUBLESHOOTING
If you experience problems while operating your DG8, please use the following table
to check for possible causes and solutions before contacting Alesis customer service
for assistance. Some of them may seem rather obvious, but you’d be amazed at how
easy it can be to overlook the basics.
Please note that many problems can be solved simply by re-initializing the DG8 – see
page 52.
SYMPTOM CAUSE SOLUTION
The display does not light
up when the
ON/OFF switch
is turned on.
No power. Check that the power cable
is plugged in properly.
Volume is turned down
or the volume pedal is at
minimum.
Raise the
VOLUME slider or
volume pedal if one is
being used.
Speakers are turned off. Turn speakers on using the
switch on the back panel.
MIDI Volume on master
controller is set to 0.
Check MIDI Volume level
on master MIDI device.
No sound.
Local Control is set to
off.
Turn Local Control on
– see page 47.
Layer sound cannot be
heard.
Layer LEVEL slider is
down.
Raise the LAYER slider.
Split sound cannot be
heard.
Split LEVEL slider is
down.
Raise the SPLIT slider.
Notes are stuck on. MIDI sequencer or
controller sent an
incomplete MIDI
message.
Step on the sustain pedal
and release.
Or select the Basic MIDI
Channel page and set MIDI
to off – see page 46.
I can hear Reverb and/or
Chorus, but their sliders
are down.
MIDI sequencer or
controller sent a message
to increase these levels.
Move the REVERB or
CHORUS slider a little to re-
activate it, then set the
amount as desired.
Non-layered piano
programs are out of tune
with external MIDI devices
or other instruments.
Stretch Tuning is on.
Select the Stretch Tuning
page and turn it off
– see page 44.
