DYNAMIC SOLO1STS'MICROPHONE
MD 416
Introduction:
The MD 416 isan ideal microphone lar soloists because 01its good
properties, the effective suppression 01pop noises, the isolation against
handling noise and the solid mechanicallay-out.
The smooth Irequency response at elose talking distance gives aweil
balanced and natural sound sensation. The directional characteristic
makes the microphone suitable lor sound reinlorcement installations
where itis used near loudspeakers. Acoustical leedback effects will be
avoided. The microphone has a built-in pop lilter which gives protection
against pop noises when the microphone is held elose to the mouth.
Further attenuation 01pop noises will be obtained by using the additional
popshield. This popshield lits very weil to the appearance 01the micro-
phone.
The capsule 01the microphone is spring mounted to the outer case. Th.e
result is a high insensitivity to handling noise. T0 protect the inner shell
against mechanical shocks or accidental dropping the gauze 01the SOUild
inlet has been strengthened by an inner mechanical reinlarcement.
The MD 416 comes with the additional pop shield and aquick release
clamp.
As optional accessory windshield MZW 416-1 is available.
Types:
There aretwo types 01MD 416. Both microphones have a balanced low
impedance output. The difference between them is the type 01connector
litted:
The MD 416 N is provided with athree pin plug according to DIN 41 524
and itis wired according to wiring diagram N.
The MD 416 U is litted with athree pin Cannon plug (XLR) and it is
connected according to wiring diagram U.

Mounting the microphone
Olten the microphone will be hand-held but it isalso possible to mount it
qUlckly and without difficulties on atripod by means 01the quick release
elamp.
The clamp leaves the lactory prepared lar mounting on tripods with 3/8"
threads. The thread adapter ean be serewed out 01the elamp by means 01
a eoin. II it is replaeed 1800 reversed, the elamp is prepared lor litting to
tripods with '/2" threads. When the thread adapter iseompletely removed
tripods with %" x 27 G threads can be used (Fig. 1).
The MD 416 is balaneed and has an eleetrieal impedanee 01200 Q. It
ean be eonneeted to both balaneed and unbalanced inputs as long
as they have an impedance 01at least 200 Q.
Directioi!1alproperties
The MD 416 hasaeardioid directional charaeteristic. The direetional index
at 1800and 1000 Hz is at least 17dB. This means, that sound Irom the rear
with aIr'equency 011000 Hz produees a17 dB lower signal than sound 01
the sarne intensity reaching the microphone lrom the Iront. So the
rnax',Tnuminsensitivity to unwanted sound sources lies by 180°. As ean be
seen lrom the polar diagram the microphone should be spoken into Irom
the Iront (Fig. 2)
Popshield
The MD 416 islitted with abuilt-in popshield which serves to attenuate all
explosive and sibilant sounds. In order to aehieve lurther reduetion 01
these disturbances it is recommended to use the additional popshield.
