The “general utility functions” in this group apply
to a wide range of functions and features. There
are 10 functions (11 for the CVP-87) in the group
which are accessed as follows:
Utility Mode 1
Use the [POP 1/POP 2] and [SWING/JAZZ BALLAD] style selectors while
holding the [MIDI/TRANSPOSE] button. The [POP 1/POP 2] style selector in-
crements the utility function number each time it is pressed, and the [SWING/
JAZZ BALLAD] button decrements the utility function number.
The Utility Mode 1 functions are indicated on the TEMPO display by a tall “U
in the leftmost digit position. The number of the function is displayed by the center
digit (“1” through “9”, “A” and “b”), and the current setting is shown by the right
digit.
The [MIDI/TRANSPOSE] button must be held until after you’ve set the func-
tion, below.
NOTES
You can cancel the selected function at this point and exit from the utility mode
simply be releasing the [MIDI/TRANSPOSE] button.

U1: Touch Sensitivity
The Clavinova can be set to one of three different types of keyboard touch sensitivity to match different playing
styles and preferences.
1: Soft. Allows maximum loudness to be produced with relatively light key pressure.
2: Medium. Produces a fairly “standard” keyboard response.
3: Hard. Requires the keys to be played quite hard to produce maximum loudness.
NOTES
The MEDIUM setting (
2
) is automatically selected whenever the POWER switch is turned
on.
