Basements,crawl spaces,skirtedareasunder mobile homes
(evenwhenventilated),closetsandareasbelow_round levelwill
serve as pockets for the accumulationof this gas. Before
attempting to lightor relightthewaterheator_pilotor turning
ona nearbyeiectricailightswitch,beabselutaiysumthemisno
accumulatedgasinthearea.Searchforodorofgasbymiffingat
groundlevel.inthe vicinityofthe apldiance.If odork detected,
followstepsindicatedat "For YourSafety"onthecoverpageof
hismanualthenleavethepremise_
Lighting and operating instructions are located on front of the
water heater, above or_o one side of the gas control valve.

Follow the gassuppliersinstTuctiom.
• If you cannotreach yourgassupplier,callthe fire depart-

DO NOT forcethe gascontrolknob.Useonlyyourhandto
pushit downto lightthe pilot,or to turn it to "ON", "OFF"
or "PILOT". Never usea tool suchasa lever,wrenchor pli-
ers. Do not hit or damagethe knob. A damagedknob may
resultin an explosionand seriousinjury.Ifyou haveproblem
turningtheknob, caJIthe gassupplierimmediately.

CHECK FOR LEAKS
Be sure to check all your gas pipes for leaks before lighting your
water heater. Use a soapy water solution, not a match or open
flame. Check the factory gas,fittings after pilot is lit and gas con-
trol knob is still in PILOT position. Then, check the fittings
when the main burner is turned =ON". Use a soapy water solu-
tion for this, too.
