HIGH TEMPERATURE SHUT OFF SYSTEM
This water heater is equipped with an automaticgasshut offsys-
tern. The high temperature shut off is built into the gas control
valve.This system shuts off the gassupply to the water heater
burners when high water temperatures are present. It is non-
resertable.If the high temperature shut offactivates,the gascon-
trol valvemust be replaced.If this were to occur,turn _OFF" the
entire gas supply to the water heater. Contact the SearsService
Center.
AWARNING
Shouldoverheatingoccuror the gassupplyfailto shutoff,
torn "OFF" the manualgascontrolvalveto the appliance.
AWARNING
Due to the nature of the typical gaswater heater, the
water temperature in certain situationsmay be hotter
thanthe thermostatsetting.
Short,frequentdrawsof hot water - especiallywith very
coldincomingwater - canshockthe thermostatintobrief
operation resulting in hotter and hot_cerlayersof water
closerto the top ofthe tank.
Changesin.hot water usagepatternsor r_stng thetem-
pereturedifferentialbetweenthe cut-onof the thermo-
statandthe coldwater temperaturewill usuallyeliminate
the problem.
NOT ENOUGH OR NO HOT WATER
_ Check the manualgasshut offvaFceto be sure it is open.
Check the pilur flame,It may have gone out. Allmodels have
an opening behind the outerdoorfor viewingthe pilot.
If the pilot is not lit, followthe _Lighting"instructions in this
manual or located above the gas control valveon the water
heater to relightthepilot. If the waterwas extremelyhot and is
now cold, the high limitsafety temperature shut off may have
put out the buraer and pilot, If the hi_ temperature shut off
activates,the gas controlvalve must be rephced.Contact the
SearsServiceCenter.
_i The gascontrol knob must be turned to the _ON" position.
The temperature adjustmentdial may be set too low. Seethe
Temperature Regulation section,
The gascompany can check the gasinput to seeif it is correct.
An underfired water heater willnot heat wateras quickly.
Look for leaking or open hot water faucets. Make su_ all are
dosed.
• The cold water inlet temperature may be colder during the
winter months, It will take longer to heat the water and seem
like lesshot water.
• If you cannot find what is wrong, call the Sears Service
Center.
WATER IS TOO HOT
• The temperature adjustment dial may be set too high. See the
Temperature Adjustment section.
NOTE: A period of time is aecessaWafter sunadjmunent
has been made for the water temperature to reach the new
temperature sett_.
• If lower temperature settings will not lower the water tempera-
ture, call the Sears Service Center.
