WARNING! Do not pull out the parking brake
valve while the vehicle is moving. Stopping with
the parking brake controls can cause a sudden
wheel lock-up, loss of control, or over-take by
following vehicles. You could be severely
injured.
See “
Using the Brake System” on page 72 for more informa-
tion.
- for vehicles with hydraulic brakes:
The parking brake consists of a driveline drum brake actu-
ated by a lever and cable. The hand lever, mounted on the
vehicle's cab floor, pulls or releases the cable controlling the
brake. Pulling upward on the parking brake lever pulls the
cable and expands the driveline brake shoes outward against
the driveline brake drum.
The driveline brake is disengaged by pushing the handle
downward to its lowest position.
NOTE: Failure to fully release the parking brake can
cause the brakes to overheat.
CAUTION: Unless it is an emergency, do not pull
upward on the parking brake lever while the
vehicle is moving. Attempting to stop with the
parking brake could cause damage to the drive-
line, transmission, or the parking brake mecha-
nism itself.
