OPTIMAL CROSSOVER SETTING
We recommend using a n a ctive c rossover witha 12 to
18dB per octave l ow passfilter slope, and setting it to
an initial setting o f 8 0 t o 90Hzas a good starting point.
This is an optimalcrossover setting on most vehicles.
INVERTING PHASE
Depending on the p lacement ofyour subwoofer enclosure
and associated components, itmay be necessary to invert t he
phase of one o r a nother ofyour system’s connections in order
to gain better s ubwoofer/mid-range blending.Inverting the
phase simply means switchingthe positive connections with
the negative connections atthe amplifier. If you choose t o d o
this, invert the phaseof only one set of speakers(either your
mains, or your s ubs, neverboth).
LOW FREQUENCY CUT-OFF FOR
MID-RANGE SPEAKERS IN
SYSTEMS WITH SUBWOOFERS
Now that you h ave asubwoofer in your system, you may
want to decrease theamount of bass going to yourmidrange
speakers. This will getyou better mid-range sound and
increase the power handling.There are two ways to rolloff
the bass before i t getsto your mid-range speakers. One w ay
is to use a“bass blocker,” a capacitor placed inseries with
the speaker input. Bassblockers are installed in series,
one end connected w ith t he positivelead from your amplifier
and the other e nd connectedto the positive lead of eachof
your speakers. Bass blockercapacitors (200 microfarad @
100V, non-polarized) are a vailable atany Radio Shack or
electronic parts supply house.The other route is to usean
electronic crossover device thatallows filtering below 100Hz
or so. Find t hese devicesat your authorized Polk Audio dealer.

Make certain your e lectronic equipmentis operating correctly
by hooking up anotherspeaker to the speaker output. For
example, if you arenot getting sound from the leftchannel
speaker, connect the rightchannel speaker to the left o utput.

REGLAGE OPTIMAL D’UN SEPARATEUR
Nous recommandons l’utilisation d’unséparateur actif avec
filtre passe-bas réglé àune fréquence de 80 - 90Hz avec une
pente de 12 à18dB par octave. C’est le réglage optimalpour la
plupart des voitures.
INVERSION DE PHASE
Selon l’emplacement de v otre subwooferen relation avec les
autres haut-parleurs, vous devrezpeut-être inverser la phase
d'un des composants devotre système pour obtenir un meil-
leur mélange subwoofer-médiums. Inverserla phase signifie
tout simplement d’inverser lefil positif et le fil négatifdes

Maintenant que votre s ystème estmuni d’un subwoofer,
vous désirez peut-être réduireles basses fréquences qui
sont envoyées à v os transducteursde médiums. Ceci
améliorera le son desmédiums et augmentera leur capacité de
puiss-ance. Il y adeux façons d’atténuer les basses f réquences
avant qu’elles n’atteignent lestransducteurs de médiums. La
première est d’utiliser unfiltre-condensateur placé à l’entrée
du haut-parleur. Ce condensateurest connecté en série, une
de ses extrémités connectéau câble positif de votre a mpli-
ficateur et l’autre connectéà la borne positive de votretrans-
ducteur. Ce type decondensateur (200 mfd (microfarad) @
100V, non-polarisé) est disponibledans la plupart des
magasins d’électronique comme LaSource/Radio Shack.
L’autre façon d’atténuer l es bassesfréquences est d’utiliser un
séparateur électronique qui atténueles fréquences sous les
100Hz. Vous pouvezvous procurerce type de séparateur chez
