Sub-floor Preparation
(In addition to flooring manufacturers installation instructions)
1. For enhanced sub-floor protection and additional warranties, it is
highly recommended that StrateStuff
Substrate Safeguard be applied to the sub-floor prior to installing the wood. (See Substrate Safeguard label
and literature for more information and warranties).
2. Follow the BR-111
wood flooring installation instructions for expansion space, sub-floor moisture and
layout requirements.
3. All sub-floors should be dry, smooth, clean and free of dirt, dust, oils, plaster, paints or any contaminate that
would interfere with a good bond.
CUTBACK ADHESIVES MUST BE COMPLETELY REMOVED AND RESIDUE ENCAPSULATED WITH
STRATESTUFF SUBSTRATE SAFEGUARD.
4. The sub-floor must be structurally sound. On plywood sub-floors, screw loose areas to reduce squeaking and
replace water-damaged or delaminated sub-flooring or underlayment.
5. To minimize the potential for hollow spots it is important that the sub-floor be smooth. Before starting the
installation, carefully check the smoothness of the sub-floor (eliminate all sudden dips or crowns that exceed
3/16" in 10 feet and/or 1/8" in 6 feet by patching or sanding/grinding).
6. StrateStuff Moisture Cure Urethane Adhesive is only formulated to be used with StrateStuff
Substrate Safeguard. DO NOT USE WITH ANY OTHER SEALER.
7. If a leveling compound is needed, use Portland based leveling compounds such as Parabond or Ardex. If
StrateStuff Substrate Safeguard is going to be used in the installation (highly recommended), leveling
compounds must be used after applying the Substrate Safeguard. Follow the manufacturers
recommendation for applying the leveling compound. Any area containing the leveling compound must be
completely dry before proceeding with the installation of the wood floor.
8. Under normal indoor living conditions in which the relative humidity is between 35%55% at a temperature
between 60 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit, tack time will be between 30 minutes to 2 hours and the open time
will be 3 hours. Drying and cure times are dependent upon relative humidity.
