Proper Method To Equalize Flooring
The following steps should be taken by your installer to insure proper equalization.
1. Establish the target job-site equilibrium point by taking into account location and heating/air condition systems.
2. Moisture meter hardwood flooring on-site. Stabilize the target equilibrium point by drying on-site, or allowing the
material to pick up additional moisture.
3. Moisture meter the sub-floor. Sub-floors that are too wet can cause cupping, swelling, and compressions to the
hardwood installation.
4. Monitor relative humidity on the job-site. It is best to have all heating/air conditioning units operating at least one week
prior to installation.
5. Based on the tests above, remove the flooring from its packaging and spread throughout the job-site, allowing the
material to reach its target equilibrium point. Continue to monitor the moisture content and allow the flooring to stand
on-site until desired point is reached.
6. Avoid excessive seasonal swings in relative humidity using heating/air conditioning and other humidity control systems.
7. Use only a slightly damp mop when cleaning floors. NEVER soak flooring.
8. Save the results of moisture readings during installation for use in identifying the cause of any future problems.
