associated with applying this sealer heavier that recommended, however, applying too little will result in
inadequate moisture emission protection and void all warranties.
4. If a leveling compound is needed, apply the leveling compound directly to the Safeguard,
do not use
primers in conjunction with Safeguard, this could result in adhesion failure between the primer
and Safeguard. The StrateStuff Substrate Safeguard will substitute as the primer for selflevelers.
Any area containing leveling or patching compounds must be allowed to completely dry before proceeding
with the installation of the wood floor (minimum 12 hrs.).
5.
Special precautions when applying StrateStuff Substrate Safeguard with plywood sub-floors over
crawl space:
StrateStuff Substrate Safeguard is very affective in preventing moisture from migrating through
suspended sub-floors and damaging the wood flooring. However, sealing the surface of the sub-floor could
result in trapping high humidity in the crawl space and promoting structural rot. Adequate ventilation and
overlapped polyethylene film to cover the ground are essential in these applications. This should be the
responsibility of the owner of the building and the installer to ensure these two measures are maintained
when StrateStuff Substrate Safeguard is applied over suspended sub-floors.
Application
1. For adhesion purposes, all sub-floors must be clean and somewhat absorbent, meaning concrete cannot be
smooth to the point of a glassy sealed finish and terrazzo must be sanded. Refer to #2 in “Surface Preparation.”
Make sure you have read the section on surface preparation and the instructions have been followed.
2. Use a brush for application around walls. Heavy applications of StrateStuff Substrate Safeguard must be
applied close to and on “seal plates” in order to help minimize vapor emission around walls.
3. Apply Substrate Safeguard with a 3/8" nap paint roller.
4.
Essential: Section the floor in 175 square foot maximum sections. This is a very necessary step in
maintaining adequate coverage. In addition to applying a full gallon to each section, StrateStuff Substrate
Safeguard should be evenly distributed throughout the section. It is recommended to work and complete
one section at a time.
5. After measuring out a full gallon, pour the product onto the floor and use the paint roller to distribute. Do not
allow puddles to form and dry in low areas; this robs high areas of adequate coverage. Use the paint roller to
move and evenly distribute StrateStuff Substrate Safeguard when wet. The paint roller should be used as a
distribution tool.
6. When adequate and even distribution has been reached on first 175 square feet, section off the second
section of 175 square feet and repeat the process in #5 above.
7. Continue with this process until the sealing process is complete.
8. Leave floor overnight to dry (minimum of 12 hours).
9. If patch or leveling compounds are necessary, apply after Safeguard has completely dried (minimum 12
hours). Read and carefully follow the directions in #4 of “Surface Preparation.”
IMPORTANT:
Failure to apply an adequate amount of StrateStuff Substrate Safeguard will result in unsatisfactory
performance and will void the StrateStuff Substrate Moisture Protection Limited Warranty. Applying
too much is better than too little. Applying too heavily will only result in longer drying times.
Applying too little will result in inadequate moisture protection.
