Troubleshooting
If the piano does not seem to be working correctly, please go through the
following list to see if you can identify and correct the problem. If you are
unable to solve the problem after going through this list, please call your
dealer or Korg service for advice.
Piano doesn’t turn on
Check that the power cord is correctly connected to a piano and a
properly functioning power outlet. (
p. 51, 53)
Be sure that the POWER switch is turned on. (
p. 9)
No sound
Be sure that the VOLUME knob is set higher than “0”. Setting the
volume to “0” turns off the sound. (

Is a plug inserted in either of the headphone jacks? Insertion of a plug
into the jack cuts off the sound to the piano’s speakers. (
p. 10)
Check the MIDI Local setting. If the setting is Off, turn it to On. (
p. 33)
NC-500 only
If you are trying to play back from the recorder, be sure that the selected

Notes are dropping out or being cut off before playing
to completion
You are exceeding the piano’s polyphony limit. See “Maximum
Polyphony” on the next page.
A piano sound seems to sound slightly odd or out of
pitch over a certain range of the keyboard
The digital piano sounds have been designed to produce a true acoustic
piano sound. This means that you may sometimes perceive variations in
sound characteristics (timbre, overtone strength, etc.) at different pitches
or ranges of the keyboard. This is not a malfunction.
Can’t record (NC-500 only)
Check that the recorder has enough free memory left. (
p. 30)
External MIDI device does not respond to MIDI data sent
from the piano
Be sure that the MIDI cable is correctly connected. (
p. 31)
Be sure that the piano’s MIDI send channel matches the external
device’s MIDI receive channel. (
p. 32)
Can’t install the USB-MIDI driver for Windows XP(NC-500
only,with Windows XP)
Be sure that the USB cable is correctly connected. (
p. 38)
Be sure that CD-ROM that came with the piano is inserted in your
computer’s CD drive.
The lens on your CD drive may be dirty. If necessary, use a commercially
available lens cleaner to clean the lens.
Are you trying to install from a networked CD drive? It is not possible
to install the driver over a network connection.
