6–Recording
Adjusting the input level
1 Press the RECORD (º) key to put the unit in
recording standby.
2 Set the MIC GAIN to M, and adjust the INPUT
volume so that the level meters extend as far as
possible without causing the PEAK indicator to
light.
If the level meters do not extend very far even
as the INPUT volume setting approaches 10, set
the MIC GAIN to H. On the other hand, if the level
meters stay extended even as the INPUT volume
setting approaches 0, set the MIC GAIN to L.
NOTE
If the INPUT switch is set to LINE, the MIC GAIN
setting has no effect.
MIC GAIN
H (high)
Use with meetings, voices and other quiet or
distant sounds
M (mid)
Use with acoustic guitars and wind instruments,
for example
L (low)
Use with band performances and other loud or
close sounds.
NOTE
When in recording standby or during recording, •
the speaker does not output sound even if the
SPEAKER switch is ON.
Connect headphones (sold separately) to the head-•
phones connector ( ) if you want to adjust the level
or record while monitoring the input.
Use the • /SP OUT volume to adjust the monitor-
ing volume. This does not affect the sound of the
recording.
In addition to adjusting the input volume, try •
adjusting the distance and angles between the
mics and sound sources.
Use the auto gain control and limiter functions to •
prevent loud sound sources from distorting when
recording. (See “Using the auto gain control and
limiter (LEVEL CTRL)” on page 42.)
Recording
Press the RECORD (º) key to put the unit in
recording standby.
Press the RECORD (º) key again to start recording.
Stop recording
When recording, press the STOP (ª) key to stop
recording and return to the beginning of the le.
Pause recording
When recording, press the RECORD (º) key or the
PLAY/PAUSE (¥/π) key to pause recording.
NOTE
When paused, press the RECORD (º) key or PLAY/
PAUSE (¥/π ) key again to restart recording. This
continues recording in the same file.
