Press [ENTER/YES]. The display will ask
“Initialize *****, Sure ?” (Do you really want to initialize?)

Press [ENTER/YES] to execute the Initialize operation. If you
decide not to initialize, press [EXIT/NO].

When initialization is completed, the VS-1824 will
automatically restart.

A certain length of time is
required in order to
initialize a disk drive. This
is not a malfunction. Do not
turn off the power until
initialization is finished.
Surface Scan
When you initialize a hard disk, you can check the entire area of that
drive to verify that read/write can be performed correctly. This
operation is called Surface Scan. When Surface Scan is performed, it
will require somewhat more time to initialize the drive, but the
reliability of the hard disk will be enhanced. We recommend that
you also perform Surface Scan when you initialize a drive.
If you wish to perform Surface Scan, perform the following steps
between steps 7 and 8 of the above procedure.
1. Use [ ] [ ] to move the cursor to “Surface Scan.”
2. Use the TIME/VALUE dial to select “On.”
